social ministry

As a faith community, there are various ways that we seek to reflect God’s love in the world. Information about the following and other opportunities can be found in our announcements and monthly newsletter. All are welcome to participate in these ministries! If you have questions or desire to get involved, please contact the office.

From September through April on Wednesday evenings at 5:15PM we serve a meal that is open to the community. We follow the school district in terms of breaks and cancellations due to weather.

Community Meal on Wednesdays

Every August, we host a clothing drive for children ages 0-18. We begin collecting donations of clothes in May. We are open several days the during a week at the beginning of August to families who need to come get clothes for their children prior to the new school year. Any clothes left at the end of the drive go to various locations that can use them. We can always use help between May and July sorting clothes as well as helping with the drive. If you are interested in helping, please contact the office for more information.

Annual Clothing Drive

Each year on the first Sunday in November, we serve a fall dinner. Menu is Thanksgiving Dinner—pork style: pork loin, mashed potatoes and gravy, stuffing, and a piece of pie (choice of cherry, apple, and pumpkin). Tickets can be purchased through the office beginning in October. Purchased meals are picked up drive through style in our parking lot on the day of the dinner. 50% of the proceeds from the dinner go to support area ministries, social services, and non-profit organizations that serve people in need.

Annual Fall Dinner

We continuously accept donations for the local food pantry. Lists of items needed can be found in our entryway outside the office. Items can be returned to the cart in the entryway outside the office

Food Pantry Donations

During the school year, we support children in need in the Howard-Winneshiek Community School District by providing food to them to take home each week for the weekend. Items are received from the Regional Food Bank in Waterloo, IA and distributed to the children at the school on Thursdays.
